I have no idea how I managed this one:
Onu (10,14)
(diminished responsibility)
Not a moral man, unfit for public office (6,6)
(Norman Lamont)

Shouldn’t it be 10,14?
diminished responsibility

.. clearly demonstrating that I put the post in late at night without checking! Thanks Clive, a mistake I will not repeat. I have now changed it!
Have you got a favourite clue?

When did ‘quiptic’ enter the language - and why?

Quiptic is an amalgamation of ‘Quick’ and ‘Cryptic’ - and as far as I know it was invented by The Guardian. I was one of their first ‘Quiptic’ setters, as it happens!

Ironically your “Not a moral man, unfit for public office” is unfit for a cryptic crossword - unless of course there is a politician called Norman Lamoat ( I tend to thin that moats were the concern of a different Tory, though)
You have one too many As and one too few Ns.
Still, I enjoyed Onu - very clever.

It wasn’t me! I blame Araucaria! I actually discussed this clue with Simon Hoggart of the Guardian and neither of us had spotted this. Thanks for your comment …

No problem. Sorry to have accused you!
I’m not immune from mistakes myself - I just noticed I missed the k off think in my note! D’oh
