There have been a lot written on the subject of how to solve cryptic crosswords, and of course the best way of learning how to solve cryptic crosswords is to start solving them at a young age and gradually learn how to do it, much like learning how to speak a language.
However not everybody has had the advantage of being brought up in a house where cryptic crosswords were just lying about, and if you come across them ‘cold’ they can seem strangely daunting.
I have looked at some of the guides out there, and I must admit to being entirely underwhelmed. It’s almost as if people want to keep cryptic crosswords difficult and inaccessible for ever!
